Recently, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a significant fraction of the world population is in lockdown. Most social and professional activities have migrated to the Internet. This has sparked an unprecedented interest in understanding how computer networks can support and facilitate collaborative music making and playing. Playing music over the network is among the most demanding and challenging Internet applications due to tight timing constraints. Researchers and artists has been exploring this media for more than two decades. This video provides an introduction to networked music performances and it includes a review of existing tools and techniques for synchronous and asynchronous collaboration.
